Spalted maple is not particulalry rare. But when the result of the spalting is this dramatic colouration, it elevates the wood to a rare level. Only a small stick from this wood could be used since the spalting processs left the wood very soft and crumbling in places. There was just enough usable wood to produce these four knobs which have been stabilized with acrylic resin to ensure their strength and preserve their colour.
